In August Homes England submitted a planning application (reference R24/0733) to Rugby Borough Council, seeking consent for proposals to improve a section of Cawston Lane, and also create a new single carriageway road (the Community Spine Road). This would form the next part of the South West Rugby Spine Road network, to enable the delivery of the residential-led mixed use development at Homestead View. The planning application is for the infrastructure improvements only, the development itself will be the subject of separate planning applications.
Cawston Lane will be upgraded to facilitate movement by active travel, new buses, and the general traffic from the Homestead View development. The new Community Spine Road (which has been named Dunkleys Street) will provide the connection between Cawston Lane and a new roundabout on Alwyn Road, delivered by the Homestead Link Road scheme.
The design provides protected walking and cycling routes throughout, as well as maintaining the existing public rights of way in the area. It will add traffic calming measures, four signal controlled crossing points, and three bus stops for future local bus services. The design has protected as many trees and hedgerows adjacent to the route as possible, provided drainage and landscape features, and retained access to all existing properties.”
